iOS update problem

I decided to try the iOS update—against my 24-hour rule—since it is late and things seems to be going smoothly for most people.

I hook up the iPhone and open up the device screen in iTunes. iTunes sees that there is an update available and prompts me to click the Update button.

A newer version of the iPhone software is available (version 4.0). To update your phone with the latest software, click Update.

I click it.

This version of iTunes (9.1.1) is the current version.

Um…wtf?
